Across America On The Power Of One Lightbulb

PRLog (Press Release)– Apr 11, 2011– FATHER AND SON TEAM USE ECOSPEED BIKE MOTOR TO POWER MICRO-CAR TRIP

Portland, OR – How far can you go on the energy needed to power one 100 watt light bulb each day?  Answer: across the continent.   A father and son team, using an energy efficient pedal-electric Micro-car propelled by their own pedaling and an EcoSpeed bike motor, will travel across country this summer in a demonstration of energy efficiency and conservation. The trip is being sponsored by both General Electric and Popular Science magazine to show the positive impact that even small, individual conservation efforts can produce.  The energy saved by chrysler turning off a single light bulb will provide the equivalent power needed for the transcontinental journey. That works out to be a cross-country road trip on the energy equivalent of just two gallons of gas at 2,000 miles per gallon.

As a dad trying to teach his kids about sustainability and conservation, journalist Pierce Hoover continually reminded his son to turn off a bedroom light when leaving the house.  He finally got tired of nagging and decided to try a more creative instructional technique.  Why not demonstrate to his son concretely how much electricity - and energy - one burning light bulb is needlessly using?

Could it power a car?  Not quite, but with the help of EcoSpeed's electric motor it could power a vehicle called a alfa romeo Micro-car manufactured by Lightfoot Cycles in Darby, Montana.  Equipped with this pedal electric hybrid the father and son team will be travel corsa ing across the country in 90 days, starting in New York City's Times Square and riding to the Oregon Coast.  Along the way, they will visit the White House, followed by a series of appearances and informal community demonstrations showing the future of transportation can be fun, healthy, and only takes a light-bulb's worth of electricity for a day's ride.

For the price of a used car, the EcoSpeed powered Micro-car will prove that without ever ferrari setting foot in a gas station, getting around can be efficient, fun and good for the planet.
